A 570 acre recreation park on the outskirts of Louisville named after former Jefferson County Judge Executive Erbon Powers 'Tom' Sawyer. The park was once a farm worked by Central State Hospital and was dedicated in 1971 by Governor Louie B. Nunn. E.P. 'Tom' Sawyer has the finest indoor and outdoor recreation facilities in Kentucky. While visiting the park, stop by the Activities Building for the indoor facilities which house a game area including pool tables, ping pong table, foosball tables and a gymnasium with courts for badminton, pickleball and basketball and seats up to 600. Don't forget to check-out the outdoor facilities too. The park offers an outdoor Olympic-size pool with locker and shower amenities, seasonal concession stand, 10 soccer fields, 3 lighted softball fields, 12 brand new tennis courts, archery range, BMX track, fitness and nature trails, year-round picnic shelters, 2 playgrounds, radio controlled airplane field and the first official dog park in Louisville. Visit the park in March for the annual Irish Classic 10K and show your athletic prowess during the park's annual Triathlon in August. The park also hosts the annual Labor Day NBL/BMX Grand Nationals with world-class racers competing from all over the world.
