Solar Eclipse

Aug. 21, 2017

A large portion of western Kentucky is the place to be for the August 2017 Total Solar Eclipse. Many areas in Kentucky will provide great viewing opportunities for this rare astronomical event.  Hopkinsville in Christian County will be near the point of "Greatest Eclipse", where not only can you be a part of 2 minutes and 40 seconds of totality but also the exact instant when the axis of the Moon's shadow passes closest to the center of Earth.

Kentucky's famed Land Between The Lakes lies in the path of the total eclipse as does Kentucky Lake, Lake Barkley, and Pennyrile State Forest.  All of these natural landmarks are home to Kentucky State Resort Parks and will be great places for eclipse watching.

Click on the cities and towns in the map below to explore the area, find accommodations and great restaurants, and see what else there is to do! Kentucky is great during the day and even more special in the dark of this total eclipse of the sun. Make plans to head to KY for your eclipse watching!
