The Friends of Mammoth Cave National Park are excited to announce the first annual Pedal for the Park bike ride, which will feature three different routes to provide opportunities for participation for riders with varying experience. The event will take place on Saturday, May 12, 2012.
All rides will begin from the Mammoth Cave National Park picnic area/ visitor center parking lot area. Registration and payment can be made on-line beginning March 1 at the Friends website (www.friendsofmammothecave.org), or a mail-in registration form can be printed at the website and mailed, along with payment, to Friends of Mammoth Cave National Park, P. O. Box 2, Mammoth Cave, KY 42259. Participants will be given an event T-shirt if registered by April 28.
The Pedal for the Park routes vary in length from about 13 to 40 miles and travel through the park and the scenic rolling hills of surrounding communities. The Mayflower ride is 39.5 miles, the Trail Blazer ride is 21.25 miles, and the Troglobite ride is 13.1 miles. Riders may experience beautiful countryside with May wildflowers and maybe even see an Eagle at the Nolin spillway. As this annual event grows, rides of extended lengths with new challenges will be featured on several of the area’s secondary roads as well as within the Park.
