McCreary County is located in southeastern Kentucky and surrounded by the southern portion of the Daniel Boone National Forest and the northern section of the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area (BSFNRRA).  It is a rugged 640,000 acre timberland with over 25 waterfalls and 40 natural arches.  McCreary County is home to over 60 miles of the Sheltowee Trace as well as the Big South Fork River which has been named one of the top ten white water rivers in the country!

Pristine forests, waterfalls, rivers and streams are just the beginning of the adventure, discovery and excitement that is McCreary County!  Take a ride back in time on the Big South Fork Scenic Railway or tour one of the country's largest interpretive collections of historic coal mining in the country.  Whether you seek the serenity of the mountains or the rushing of the rapids you will find it in McCreary County because "It's Our Nature!..Make It Your Experience!"
