About

Childhood home of Civil War Confederate General Albert Sidney Johnston.  His death at the Battle of Shiloh (TN) on April 6, 1862 was said to be a military turning point of the war.  The family of Union General William “Bull” Nelson resided here after the death of Johnston’s father.  The Johnston & Nelson families attended the Washington Presbyterian Church; both men attended West Point and would fight at the Battle of Shiloh.
