Deeded to the Commonwealth in 1954, the Pennyrile State Forest is home to over 14,000 acres of property for outdoor recreation. There are approximately 40 miles worth of trails in the forest. These trails are open to hikers and equestrians. There is a mountain bike skills area that is currently being developed on the adjacent Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park, that will help to enhance the biking opportunities of the area. Hunting is also popular on the forest, and there are a variety of game species to pursue. Deer hunters should note that there are special Quality Deer Management regulations in place. One of ten Kentucky State Forests, the Pennyrile Forest features numerous opportunities for recreation.
