120 miles from Breaks Interstate Park to Cumberland Gap National Historic Park, 60 miles completed so far, includes 38 mile Little Shepherd Trail, will be part of the Great Eastern Trail
The Pine Mountain State Scenic Trail will be one of the premier hiking destinations in the region. This trail, once completed will be incorporated into the Great Eastern Trail that will run from Alabama to New York. The Pine Mountain Trail covers some of the most attractive landscapes in the commonwealth. Stretching from Cumberland Gap National Historic Park and Pine Mountain State Resort Park in Pineville, to the Breaks Interstate Park in Elkhorn City, the Pine Mountain State Scenic Trail will be a "must do" for any serious backpacker. There are currently 60 miles of the 120 mile trail completed, as well as a few shelters and camping areas. The Pine Mountain Trail Conference has the most up to date information on trail conditions.
