General Description

Martins Fork Lake offers water enthusiasts good fishing and boating opportunities. Species that anglers can target in the lake include bass, bluegill, crappie, walleye, and catfish. Rainbow trout are also present below the dam and are stocked March through November. Swimming is also available to visitors who like to cool off on hot summer days. A multi-purpose trail along the backside of the lake, Cumberland Shadow Trial is a great way to enjoy the outdoors in a natural setting. Winding its way along ridges and through the valleys of Martins Fork, the trail also provides excellent views of the lake. The trail also has two primitive campsites for backpackers. Hunting is available for a variety of species and open under statewide regulations for Harlan County.
