18 miles, multiple access points, relatively easy paddling, fishing for variety of species
Pool 9on the Kentucky River was the first to be designated as a recreational water trail. This 18 mile stretch offers soem great recreational paddling and plenty of fishing opportunities. Pool 9 starts with Lock and Dam 10, located right beside Fort Boonesborough State Park. There is a public boat ramp at the park, as well as a popular campground. White bass and hybrid striped bass like to congregate below this at certain periods of the year. Paddlers will see a few nature preserves along this stretch of river, including Raven Run and Floracliff. Historic Boone Creek is also accessible through Pool 9, and provides some great trout and smallmouth fishing. Black bass, crappie, catfish and even muskellunge can be found in pool 9. Three Trees Canoe & Kayak are a local outfitter that provide boat and equipment rentals, as well as shuttle services.
