857 acres in Kentucky, Letcher & Pike counties, steep terrain, camping available in some locations, check with USFS before camping
While the majority of the Jefferson National Forest lies in the state of Virginia, over 850 acres stretch into eastern Kentucky. Letcher county claims 742 acres, and there is an additional 115 in Pike County. The National Forest is steep and rugged, but those willing to take the challenge will be glad they did. Camping is available in some locations, but campers should check with the U.S. Forest Service before setting out.
