As the name suggests, Ohio River Islands WMA is a series of Islands located in the Ohio River upstream from Smithland Lock and Dam. Located in the community of Birdsville, this WMA can be found just north of the Smithland Lock & Dam. These islands are comprised of mostly wetland terrain, and provide excellent habitat for migrating waterfowl. The Steward Island Unit is a waterfowl refuge that is closed from October 15 through March 15 annually. The WMA also provides fishing access on the Ohio River.
