General Description

Ben Hawes Park offers opportunities for both recreation and education. Formerly a State Park located west of Owensboro, the city now owns and operates the park that continues to offer guests adventure in the great outdoors. What was once the site of a deep coal mine operation that operated until the 1950s, there are a few remaining structures that trail users can check out. The park has plenty of room for various athletic fields and also great trail systems. Almost ten miles of single track have been built at Ben Hawes in coordination with the Kentucky Mountain Bike Association and offers trails for all level of rider. A popular golf course is located on, and operated by the park, as well as an archery range.
