General Description

The world's longest known cave system is found right here in Kentucky. In the south-central region of the state, Mammoth Cave National Park has been attracting adventure seekers and the curious from around the world. With more than 367 miles of caves explored, the vast chambers and complex labyrinths earned it the name mammoth. There are also plenty of adventure outside the caves as well. Mammoth Cave National Park is home to an extensive series of multi-use trails. Horseback riding is allowed on all trails north of the Green River except Sal Hallow Trail. Backcountry camping is also permitted with a backcountry use permit that may be obtained free of charge at the Park Visitor Center. The Green and Nolin rivers located in the park offer blue way users miles and miles of navigable and fishable water. Mammoth Cave National Park is a must see for out of state visitors, and Kentuckians alike.
