280 miles through Daniel Boone National Forest and Big South Fork, travels from outside Morehead through Stearns and into Tennessee, some sections paved, some sections open to Mountain Biking & Horse Riding, camping available along the trail in various sites, some parts are difficult, thru-hiking is not recommended for inexperienced or novice hikers/backpackers. Additional mileage is being added on in Tennessee currently.
McKee is nestled in the hills of the mid Daniel Boone National Forest in Jackson County. A certified Kentucky Trail Town, McKee is home to numerous outdoor adventures. The Sheltowee Trace National Recreation Trail passes just outside of town on its way south into Tennessee. Horse lovers young and old will want to visit Triple R Ranch. Ran by local cowboys Brad & Kim Hornsby, Triple R Ranch offers guided rides and several camp experiences for youth throughout the year. US Bicycle Route 76, also known as the TransAmerica Trail, travels right through downtown McKee. Several options are available to spend the night in McKee including the Town & Country Motel, S-Tree campground,Turkey Foot Campground and Sheltowee Trace Rentals. Visitors will want to grab a bite to eat in town and explore some of the unique and historical attractions in McKee. Make sure to save room for pie from Opals, a McKee landmark with home cooked food and friendly service.
