General Description

The Cumberland Ranger District of the Daniel Boone National Forest is split into two main reacreational areas. The Red River Gorge area and Cave Run Lake area both offer have fantastic opportunities for adventure. Cave Run Lake is an 8,270 acre reservoir located near Morehead Kentucky and is a top destination for anglers, especially muskie fishermen. Aside from the lake, there are 160 miles of trails including sections of the Sheltowee Trace National Recreational Trail. White Sulphur Horse and ATV/OHV camp is a popular camp for those wishing to ride the trails. The Red River Gorge is renown for the hiking, camping, rock climbing and rappelling. Red River Gorge sits adjacent to Natural Bridge State Resort Park, and has its own 90 miles of trails. With all it has to offer adventure seekers, its no wonder why the Cumberland District attracts a large number of visitors to the Daniel Boone National Forest
