Fort Boonesborough offers a central location to explore the history of the Bluegrass Region of Kentucky. Located on the banks of the Kentucky River, campers can enjoy visiting the nearby horse country, the arts and crafts of Berea, the Red River Gorge Wilderness area or relive the pioneer life of Daniel Boone with our living historians at Fort Boonesborough. The campground has 167 improved sites with electric and water hook-ups, of which 18 have a sewer hook-up and we also offer three centrally located dump stations. There is a large primitive camping area and an overflow camping area. Two central service buildings with showers, restrooms and laundries are available. In addition there is a recreation building and a grocery store. Two playgrounds, a basketball court, a volleyball court, horseshoe pits and a miniature golf course are located within the campground. The park offers recreational programming and special events weekends such as Easter and the Kentucky Derby. Our premier special event is our annual Halloween Fest which features a driving tour of decorated campsites and park facilities displaying over 150,000 lights. The park has a swimming complex with a junior Olympic-size pool, 144 foot water slide, wading pool and snack bar. There is also a boat ramp, hiking trails, the Kentucky River Museum and our main attraction, the Fort Boonesborough replica.
