Towne Square Place at the turn of the century served as the office of the city's first mayor, S.B. Dishman. Later the house was occupied by the Burnside and Knuckles families. The last occupant of the home, Jean O. Knuckles, was the granddaughter of Barbourville native, Governor Black. In years past, residents of this home have opened its doors to many boarders who attended the Barbourville Baptist Institute and Union College. Towne Square Place, continuing the hospitality that was a trademark of the home for nearly a century, opens its doors to you.
