About

The American Saddlebred Capital of the World, Shelbyville, is named in honor of Governor Isaac Shelby. In the early 1800's, Shelbyville was a place to stop as you traveled between Louisville & Frankfort on horseback or buggy. It was then and remains today a great place to live, work or visit.

By 1800, it was the seventh largest town in the state with a population of 262 residents.  Now with a population of about 13,000 it is a quaint town with true Southern Charm. Stop by one of our destination restaurants including the popular, Science Hill Inn. Visit the coffee/tea shop or why not peruse one of our many interesting shops.  Don’t forget the many events taking place in downtown, check out www.shelbyvilleky.com for a full listing.
