The Lincoln Heritage National Scenic Byway is a 72 mile drive that winds its way through the picturesque knobs of central Kentucky. Along the route are significant historic and cultural resources including Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park and museum in Hodgenville, Bourbon distilleries near Bardstown, Springfield's Lincoln Homestead Park, Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site and Danville's Constitution Square State Park.
The byway explores Abraham Lincoln's early life as well as other themes important to Kentucky history such as religious settlement witnessed as the byway travels to many of the earliest Catholic churches in the region as well as the Abbey of Our Lady of Gethsemani, America’s oldest Trappist Monastery. Another theme featured is the development of the Bourbon industry with several major distilleries along the route. Civil War history is an important story along the byways as told at the Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site.
This scenic drive travels through quaint Main Street communities including Hodgenville, New Haven, Bardstown, Springfield, Perryville and Danville. All with great dining and shopping opportunities.
The Lincoln Heritage National Scenic Byway represents an escape from the ordinary, a true symbolism of the adventure of the open road, and a snapshot of early American life and Kentucky Settlement.
