Standing proudly in Frankfort's historic residential corridor, known as the 'Corner in Celebrities,' the Vest-Lindsey House is among the capital city's beautifully restored landmarks. The house is located in the earliest settled section of the town and is believed to have been constructed between 1810 and 1820. The Vest-Lindsey House was saved from demolition in 1965, and restored to its original Federal Style. Throughout the 19th century this house served as a gathering place for persons of culture and refinement. Among family friends were Kentucky artist Paul Sawyier and the artist-novelist Robert Burns Wilson whose Until the Day Breaks uses the Vest-Lindsey House as its principal setting. In 1978 the Vest-Lindsey House was furnished to reflect the decor of the early 19th century. Today the beautiful Flemish bond red brick, and the harmonious furnishings make it a most charming house. The Vest-Lindsey House is the official State meeting house and is open Monday through Friday. Please contact (502) 564-5500 or (502) 564-0900 for information on scheduling.
