The Kentucky Gateway Museum Center, formerly Mason County Museum, is operated by the Maysville and Mason County Library, Historical and Scientific Association chartered by the Commonwealth of Kentucky on March 1, 1878 and is said to be the oldest state historical organization in continuous existence. The Museum is housed in the 1881 building with its 2007 addition, and allows visitors to experience pioneer life to the present through dioramas, artifacts, historical/genealogical library and timelines. We are a location on the Civil War Discovery Trail of the Civil War Trust. The Genealogical and Research Library includes an extensive collection of Civil War materials, published copies of all Orders by the Army and Navy of each side, diaries and letters, rosters, local papers of the day on microfilm, the Draper Papers on microfilm, and many reference files of interest to those seeking historical and genealogical data about Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, and other states. The Kathleen Savage Browning Miniatures Collection includes numerous 1/12th scale structures filled with the highest quality original, handcrafted furnishings. Displays range from a 1920's 15-room Tudor home to an adaptation of Spencer House, an 18th century London mansion, built by the family of the late Diana, Princess of Wales.
We are a Blue Star Museum.
