Trails & Roads

Kentucky has been attracting hikers since Daniel Boone high-tailed it across the Cumberland Gap in the 18th century.

Few states have as many wilderness retreats as Kentucky, and when you throw in the State Parks' extensive trail system; you have a hiker's paradise. Try hiking around a boulder the size of an office building at Courthouse Rock in Stanton, or hike to Yahoo Falls, Kentucky's highest waterfall, along the Big South Fork River near Whitley City. Do a "short" 2-mile walk along the Kentucky River Palisades or a 31-mile trek along Kentucky Lake's North-South Trail.

While many of Kentucky's scenic trails loop through national forest and Geologic areas, some of the most scenic can be found in urban areas - Bernheim Forest in Louisville and Raven Run Nature Sanctuary in Lexington.

The commonwealth's bikers have plenty to choose from as well. Kentucky's terrain allows for some of the best mountain biking in the country, from the rugged Appalachians and the Daniel Boone National Forest to trails at Mammoth Cave National Park and Land Between the Lakes.
