This is a very intensive, basic introduction to glass that will allow you to determine whether you would like to further your experience in working with hot glass. <p><strong>Start Date:11/6/2009 10:00 A.M.</strong></p><p><strong>Berea Arts Council invites you to visit its new Winter Gift Event, Original Art…Original Gift, an invitational exhibit of artwork created by local artists.  This exhibit is in celebration of the winter holidays, and will run November 6 through December 23, with an opening reception on November 6, from 5:30 to 7:30pm. There will also be an open house the day of the Christmas Parade, December 5, from 4 to 6 pm.
 
This exhibit offers a sustainable alternative for your gift giving by supporting Berea’s own arts council (a membership organization) and many of the working artists in the Berea Community. Shoppers may take the artwork at the time of purchase and Berea Arts Council is offering complimentary gift-wrapping. Choose among the many artworks that are all 6” x 6” inches and reasonably priced with nothing over $100. A 10% discount will be offered all day on November 6, for those who have purchased or do purchase a 2010 Berea Arts Council membership. Looking for the perfect presentation for your tasty,
gourmet holiday masterpiece? Join us in the Walk-in Workshop and make more than a
turkey this Thanksgiving! Using the fusing and slumping method, you'll design a layered
glass platter to be fused (melted), then slumped (placed on a mold and heated to "slump"
into the mold's shape). You may choose from two platter sizes: Large (18"x14") and
Extra Large (18 1/2"x18 1/2"). Going back for seconds is no problem! Class maximum is
6. No previous glass experience is necessary. Platters will be completed in one afternoon
but will require a 2 nights in the kiln. Your piece will be finished and ready for pick up

Saturdays in December
1-4pm
You begin by cutting long strips of glass that you will layer into a geometric
snow flake shape. The Walk-In Workshop staff will teach you how to score
the glass using a carbide glass cutter and will give you design tips to help
you create a work of art. Pieces must be picked up at a later date, or
shipped. Appropriate for ages 12 & up. $15-$20.</strong></p>]]>
