MURRAY HIGHLAND FESTIVAL

Spend a day in Scotland at the Murray Highland Festival!  Events include Scottish Highland Games, music performances by Highland Reign and 17th Lancers Pipe Band, Clan tents, Wee Bairn Games and demonstrations of Highland dancing and weaving.  Need a kilt? WOOLLY WORM FESTIVAL

Far from being a normal festival, the Woolly Worm Festival became a tradition rooted in Lee County’s culture. The woolly worm is believed to forecast the weather for the coming winter season. A woolly worm’s body has 13 segments-each corresponding to a week in winter. If a segment is light brown, that means the week will be mild. If a segment is black, that means a harsh, cold week. The worm acted as a weather predictor for many old time farmers who would harvest crop and cut firewood in preparation for the upcoming winter. 

Festival food, Woolly Worm Races, Live Entertainment on two stages, Inflatables for the kids, and over 100 booths up and down both sides of Main Street. Enjoy the opening ceremony on Friday, October 24th, Parade on Saturday October 25th, and Car Show and Closing ceremony on Sunday, October 26, 2014.

Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular

The Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular began in Oxford, Massachusetts in 1988. It’s entertainment for the entire family. The Louisville event, October 9 – November 2, will be held in Iroquois Park with 5,000 carved pumpkins lining a ¼-mile walking trail, illuminated at night as an “art show” daily from dusk to 11 p.m. during the week (Sunday-Thursday) and midnight on Friday & Saturday.

Commemoration of the Battle of Perryville

October 4 - 5, 2014

Thousands of visitors participate in the popular October weekend event in Perryville each year that commemorates the Oct. 8, 1862 Civil War Battle of Perryville.   Re-enactors demonstrate military maneuvers that were used in the battle.  There are living history encampments, a lecture series, book presenters, antique and vendor tents, a Commemoration Parade, ghost tours, Period Social and a “Taste of 1862” Dinner & Dance featuring an authenic meal prepared over an open fire.  Other fun activities include a craft fair, flea market, festival food, a car show and a street dance.
