Kentucky's Century Challenge

By: Harrison Maddox
The rolling green hills of western Kentucky and arduous Appalachian Mountains are perfectly suited to cycling, and thousands of riders visit each year to pedal The Bluegrass State. But many don’t know about the annual Kentucky Century Challenge.
Geared toward seasoned riders, the Kentucky Century Challenge highlights four great organized Kentucky bike rides:Redbud Ride - The aptly-named Redbud Ride skirts the town of London and features picturesque spring scenery – including plenty of blooming redbud trees.
Horsey Hundred - Depart from Georgetown and spin past world-famous bourbon distilleries, horse farms, the state capitol and much more!
Bike Morehead - Takes riders through and around a great trail town in Kentucky, complete with plenty of miles through the breathtaking Daniel Boone National Forest.
Hub City Tour - Pedal the scenic rural backroads around Elizabethtown. You’ll cruise through rolling hills and charming Kentucky countryside on well-maintained roads.
Each of these rides has a Century (100-mile) route. Riders who complete the 100-mile route of any three of these rides are eligible for a commemorative Kentucky Century Challenge cycling jersey. Those who finish all four of these 100-mile Kentucky bike rides will earn the distinguished “400 Mile” designation on their jerseys.
Embark on three or four of these fantastic rides and you’ll feel a sense of accomplishment not many get to experience. And even better, you’ll see the Kentucky countryside at a pace that allows you to enjoy it more.
Though each ride has its own entry fee, registration for the Challenge is free!
