Shaker Village Holiday Favorites: Food, Fun & Festivities

There’s a diverse daily schedule of interesting things to do at America’s largest preserved and best-known communal society – the Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill. Settled in 1805 in Harrodsburg and inhabited until 1910, the 3,000-acre area includes 34 restored 19th century buildings, a farm and garden, nature preserve, trails, workshops, programs and demonstrations, and an inn. The Shaker Village Inn accommodations include 70 rooms, suites and private cottages overlooking the gently rolling hills.

Each season brings special events, programs and activities, and the Shaker Village December calendar features festivities such as traditional holiday music, seasonal Shaker food favorites and general merriment. Visitors can also enjoy candlelight tours, bonfires with hot chocolate, twinkling Christmas lights and the savory holiday luncheon tea.

The special 5-course holiday luncheon, served daily, is a testament to Shaker Village Holiday favorites. It begins with a serving of Pleasant Hill tomato-celery soup and a cedar pecan wafer, which is followed by a fresh scone and a savory tart of the day, then assorted tea sandwiches are served, and the luncheon ends with a freshly-made delicious dessert from the Bakery. Reservations are required so please be sure to call ahead: 800-734-5611, ext 360.

Reservations are also required for the Afternoon Tea, served from 2:30-4 pm Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays in December. Guests will enjoy a cup of orange spiced tea with a scone, assorted tea sandwiches and breads, country ham biscuits, cheddar pecan wafers and a sweet treat from the bakery.

Vegetarian, dairy-free and gluten-free options are available with advanced notice so be sure to mention your dietary needs when making reservations. Guests who dine at the Shaker Village Inn receive a 10% discount at The Craft Shops at Shaker Village.
