Discover Unique Experiences Found Only in Oldham
Kentucky is full of unique, one-of-a-kind things to see and do and this “Only in Oldham” bucket list is a great place to start. Just 20 minutes from downtown Louisville on I-71, Oldham County has all things Kentucky in one convenient getaway.
Farm Tour Capital of Kentucky
Oldham Farm Tours offers the most educational, interactive farm tours in Kentucky. Come April through November for 13 different farms showcasing Hallmark® favorite horse farms, an alpaca farm and fiber art studio, a dairy making artisan cheese and an organic bison farm with the largest collection of gigantic hot pink snails and fluorescent green rabbits in Kentucky.
Trains on Main in La Grange
La Grange is the only town in the world with a freight train running ON its Main Street. With a walkable historic shopping and dining district offering boutiques, galleries, studios, restaurants featured on The Cooking Channel® and cool outdoor seating by the railroad tracks, it’s something you won’t want to miss!
Yew Dell Botanical Gardens
The only botanical garden in Kentucky on the National Historic Register is here as well, featuring the only geothermal greenhouse with a “green” roof in the state, the only small-scale castle, the only Fairy Forest at a botanical garden in the state, and the largest collection of hellebores and hostas in Kentucky. Plan your visit during April and May to catch “Big Bloom,” the state’s largest celebration of tulips.
Oldham County History Center & Museum
Where else can you find the largest whiskey jug collection in Kentucky, the only place in the state with two sites on the National Park Service’s Underground Railroad Network to Freedom and the largest WWII veterans oral history collection in the Bluegrass State? Only in Oldham.
Take aim at the longest indoor firearms range in Kentucky, featuring a 300-foot indoor rifle range with computerized targets. You’ll also find the largest indoor “reball” arena in Kentucky here (think paintball without the mess) and the state’s largest indoor NERF arena.
3rd Turn Brewing Oldham Gardens
Raise a pint at the largest cultivated beer garden in Kentucky – nearly 9 acres! This attraction in Oldham County consists of 3rd Turn Brewing, Hive & Barrel Meadery and Backside Grill, which is on a short street that is also home to Yew Dell Botanical Gardens and Kentucky Artisan Distillery. And just across the street, you’ll find Openrange Sports.
Kentucky Artisan Distillery
Keep the “spirit” going at the first distillery in Oldham County since Prohibition, home to Jefferson’s, Whiskey Row and Billy Goat Strut bourbons. This ice cream factory-turned-distillery is Kentucky’s only farm-to-bottle distillery on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail Craft Tour®, and showcases a unique collection of distilling antiques and what Esquire magazine calls “the perfect Manhattan.” Yes, please!
Barn8 Restaurant & Bourbon Bar at Hermitage Farm
While in Oldham County, an incredible meal at the new farm-to-table restaurant Barn8 & Bourbon Bar is a must. (And yes, it’s in a gorgeous barn!) Stroll through Kentucky’s most unique collection of horse carriages on display at Hermitage Farm’s newly renovated Stud Barn and Carriage Gallery – including a Brewster-made Vis-a-Vis Carriage featured in the 1939 classic movie “Gone with the Wind.” Enjoy their horse farm tour and art walk through the woods.
