Size and Use Guidelines

PRINT

Any usage smaller than 1.5" (1 1/2") must be pre-approved by the Kentucky Department of Tourism.

PRINT ADS SMALLER THAN 1/2 PAGE

1.5 inch brand useFor print ads smaller than 1/2 page, the Brand should always be used for optimum legibility and should never be less than 1.5" (1 1/2") wide as shown.

PRINT ADS 1/2 PAGE & LARGER

2 inch brand useFor print ads 1/2 page and larger, the Brand should always be used for optimum legibility and should never be less than 2.0" (2") wide as shown.

COLLATERAL BRAND USAGE FOR TOURISM MARKETING INCENTIVE PROGRAM

2.25 inch brand use(Tourism publications, Videos, CDs and DVDs, etc.)

 

Each collateral piece is different, but the Brand should always be sized for optimum legibility. 2.25" (2 1/4") is the preferred minimum size for most collateral pieces. However, if the design doesn't allow this proportion, the Brand must never, for any instance, fall below 1.5" (1 1/2"). Maximum size possible is preferred.

CLASSIFIED, BROCHURE AND SIZE RESTRICTED ADS BRAND USAGE

(Tourism Marketing Incentive Program)
If the ad is a classified ad, a brochure ad, or if size restrictions of the ad would cause the Brand to overpower or consume a disproportionate amount of space while using the minimum 1.5" Brand with in the ad, then "Kentucky Unbridled Spirit" must be typeset in bold on the bottom of the ad.

If there is any question regarding an ad's eligibility relative to this category, prior approval by the Department of Travel is recommended.

CO-OP ADVERTISING

This requirement is for ads that are a part of the Department of Tourism's Co-op Plan and tourism industry member co-ops utilizing the Tourism Marketing Incentive program. The Brand is not required in individual ads as long as those ads are on a page where the Brand already appears. This brand must be no smaller than 1.5" (1 1/2").

For double truck ads (both pages side-by-side, facing front), the Brand is required once. If one page follows another (front/back), the brand is required on both pages.

All tourism industry co-ops must have creative approval PRIOR to publication of the ad.

STATE GUIDE ADVERTISING

Effective immediately, the Brand will not be required on tourism-related ads in the official State Visitors Guide. This rule applies to all guides developed by the Kentucky Department of Tourism in which advertising is sold.

TELEVISION

When the Brand appears on screen in broadcast media, it must always be the EPS version of the Brand converted to RGB.

All Brand usage standards for print advertising still apply for television. The Brand must appear during the last three to five seconds of the television spot.

The Brand must never appear smaller than 1/3 the width of the screen.

RADIO

For radio spots the brand identity must be announced during the last three to five seconds of the commercial after all other copy is read. The brand identity should read exactly as follows:

"Kentucky, Unbridled Spirit"

This phrase is never to be combined with other copy.

INTERNET

2 inch Brand UseThe Brand must be included on the home page of all tourism related websites receiving Tourism Marketing Incentive funds. The Brand should always be used for optimum legibility and should never be less than 2.0" (2") = 144 pixels wide x 37 pixels high at 72 dpi.

The Brand shall provide a link to the Department of Tourism's main site (www.kentuckytourism.com) The consumer should be able to see the Brand in the visible screen without scrolling down.

INTERNET MEDIA

BANNER ADVERTISING

For standard banner ads, including the Square (300x250), Skyscraper (160x600), and Leaderboard (728x90), the Brand should always be used for optimum legibility and should never be less than 1.5" (1 1/2") = 108 pixels wide x 27pixels high at 72 dpi without shadow.

If size restrictions of the ad would cause the Brand to overpower or consume a disproportionate amount of space while using the minimum 1.5" Brand within the ad, then "Kentucky, Unbridled Spirit" must be typeset in bold on the bottom of the ad. Prior creative approval by the Department of Tourism is required.

E-MAIL MARKETING/NEWSLETTERS

For e-mail marketing/newsletters, etc., the Brand should always be used for optimum legibility and should never be less than 2.0" (2.0") = 144 pixels wide x 37 pixels high at 72 dpi.

2 inch Brand Use

 

 

FOR ALL ADVERTISING IN THIS CATEGORY: Upon approval, applicant is required to have a visible link to the Kentucky Department of Tourism’s home page (www.kentuckytourism.com). Visible Link means - the Brand/web address (web address lettering optional) must appear in the TOP 500 pixels, (at standard web page size - 72 dpi) of the first visible page where the consumer is directed by the ad. The consumer should be able to see the Brand in the visible screen without scrolling down.

Consumers must be able to reach the Department of Tourism’s web site with one click from the page where they are first directed by the advertising.

The Department of Tourism reserves the right to determine the acceptability and value of all written, graphic and visual material as to its content and appropriateness for the general public and for the state’s effort to promote tourism.

If there is any question regarding an ad's eligibility relative to this category, prior approval by the Department of Tourism is recommended.

OUTDOOR ADVERTISING

When utilizing the Brand on outdoor boards, the Brand should always be sized for optimum legibility. Never use the Brand in a manner other than that specified in the Graphic Standards Manual. The Brand should be placed on the bottom left, bottom center or bottom right of the outdoor board.

Note: All outdoor board designs must be approved by the Department of Tourism prior to posting.

Bulletin (usually 12' or 14' x 48')
(usually vinyl or painted and seen from interstate)

Brand should be no smaller than 1/5 the width of board

36 Sheet (usually 10' 5" x 22' 8")
(usually printed but may be vinyl or painted, seen from roadside or posted on 2-3 story building)

Brand should be no smaller than 3/10 the width of board.
