Founded in 1879, Simmons College was the first and is the oldest institution of higher learning for African Americans in Kentucky. It was named for its second president, Dr. William Simmons under whose tenure the educational institution took shape. With a story that spans over a century, Simmons has always been a destination for students wishing to educate themselves to meet the challenges of a changing world.
