Dixie Chili

Ever heard of a “chili parlor”? Probably not if you’re not from this area. Parlors are where you find Cincinnati-style chili, plus décor staples like a tray line, tile walls and floors, more booths than tables and usually a jukebox. The menu at Dixie is simple: the mainstay is chili ladled over a base of spaghetti, and you then choose whether to add beans, onions, cheese, jalapenos and even chopped garlic. The array of Coney dogs is equally customizable, and there’s a variety of fries, too. Simple, delicious and inexpensive. And get this: Dixie’s stores open at 9 a.m. most days and stay open until 1 a.m. and later on weekends. That’s a testament to the powerful tradition of this unique style of chili.
