Natural Bridge State Resort Park would like to welcome nature lovers of all ages to the Great Caterpillar Count for an opportunity to observe the diversity of caterpillars at the park and to rediscover the wonder of nature in the process! The information collected will help us have a better understanding of the caterpillars that call Natural Bridge home. Over 115 species of caterpillars have been identified at Natural Bridge and late summer and early fall is the best time to see them!
To partake in the counting of caterpillars you can attend a naturalist led presentation and one or more guided caterpillar walks. If you would rather set out on your own counting caterpillars, you can pick up a count packet at either the front desk of the Hemlock Lodge or in the Nature Center. The packet will include instructions, a caterpillar photo identification guide, a count checklist, and a park map. You can count for thirty minutes or all day!
