National Parks 

Six Kentucky national parks offer adventures of historic proportions. Kentucky’s most visited NPS property is Mammoth Cave National Park, the largest known cave system in the world. Straddling the Kentucky-Tennessee border, the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area boasts a bounty of activities for adventure lovers, including whitewater rafting, rock climbing, hiking and horseback riding.

History buffs have lots to learn about at Kentucky’s National Parks, too. Cumberland Gap National Historical Park was a key site in the history of westward expansion and the legacy of frontiersman Daniel Boone. Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park gives visitors a glimpse into the humble beginnings of an admired president. And Kentucky’s complex Civil War history may be explored at  – Fort Donelson National Battlefield, Camp Nelson National Monument, and Mill Springs Battlefield National Monument.
