In Kentucky, a glass of bourbon with your dinner is a no-brainer. But bourbon slathered on your dinner? That works too! Liven up your next cookout with this boozy barbecue sauce, spiked with a hearty splash of Four Roses® Bourbon. It pairs well with just about any smoked or grilled meats, from beef to pork to chicken to mutton – a favorite style of BBQ in Western Kentucky.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 cup yellow onion, minced
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup Four Roses® Bourbon
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp (packed) light brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp dijon mustard
  • 3 tbsp butter

Preparation

Heat a pan over medium heat and add butter. Once the butter melts, add the onion and sauté until clear, about 5 minutes or so. Turn the heat to low and add all the remaining ingredients, except for the bourbon. Stir continuously until the sauce is well combined and comes to a low simmer (about 5 minutes). Add the Four Roses® bourbon and allow to simmer for 10 more minutes, stirring continuously so the bottom doesn’t burn. Turn off the heat and allow sauce to cool. (Optional – blend the sauce in a blender until smooth if you don’t like your sauce chunky with the onions). Add to your favorite chicken or pork for about the last 10 minutes of cooking time to allow the sauce to form a nice glaze.
