Transportation To & Around Kentucky

Kentucky’s roadway system covers nearly 80,000 miles, including interstates, U.S. highways, state parkways, rural routes, and county-maintained roads. Major north-south interstates include I-71, I-75, I-65, and I-69 runs from the Kentucky border near Henderson and leaves the state at Fulton.  I-64 runs east-west from Ashland to Louisville.

In construction zones, speed limits are temporarily reduced, and fines are doubled.

Kentucky offers both major and regional airports with scheduled commercial service, along with approximately 150 general aviation airports statewide.

Amtrak

Amtrak operates two long-distance trains through Kentucky. Stations are located in:

  • South Shore-South Portsmouth (SPM)

Time Zones

Kentucky is divided into two time zones: Eastern and Central. The state’s three largest cities—Louisville, Lexington, and Covington/Newport—are on Eastern Time. Kentucky observes Daylight Saving Time.
