Unwind in the Bluegrass State

State Wide

Life is overwhelming. Work, school, traffic, noise, bills, chores...the list of things to do and worry about is seemingly unending and hard to get away from. Luckily, Kentucky has a list just as long of places that can give you a break from all the above. Places that are quiet, tranquil and can make life’s stressors seem like a world away.

There is no one correct remedy for stress. Some look to nature in search of a unique blend of serenity and exploration. Others would rather recharge their batteries while reading a book on the veranda of a bed and breakfast of a picturesque small town. Look no further than the Bluegrass State for these retreat ideas and more.

There are 44 Kentucky State Parks located all over the Commonwealth and every one of them gives visitors a chance to immerse themselves into all manner of peaceful outdoor activities. Try hiking to one of the many breath-taking views along a trail in Pine Mountain State Resort Park in southeastern Kentucky. Or maybe casting a line from a bass fishing boat on Kentucky Lake at Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park is the best way back to center.  For equestrian types, one can always saddle up a horse and saunter down the Eagle Point Trail in Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Park. No matter what the location or activity is, Kentucky State Parks should not be overlooked.

The L&N Bed and Breakfast in the river city of Henderson is perfect for those who need some peace but still want to keep a foot inside the grid. After a gourmet breakfast in the L&N’s charming dining room, take a long walk along the Ohio River relax with some retail therapy. Boutiques of every caliber and persuasion abound in downtown Henderson.

Almost ten miles outside of Henderson is the Farmer & Frenchman. This restaurant is set on a picturesque farm and winery with a view of fields and vineyard that cannot be beat. Add a first-class dinner from a seasonal menu, expertly paired with wine; anyone who was stressed at the start of the meal, will be full, happy and perhaps a little sleepy by the end.
